The Power Of Failure

I am a firm believer in the power of failure and its ability to unwittingly make you stronger, a better person or just to teach you an immesureable lesson you would otherwise never have learnt had it not been for that harsh or shocking experience of failing.
I found this video of J.K Rowling giving a speech at Harvard University. She is amazing.

She is a great reminder that we are all capable of being great and of following our hearts and what we know is right for us.

She inspires me.
This video has inspired me.

I hope it ignites the same thing within you.

  1. I often wonder if the risk for some people when they/we fail - is that we/they learn have really learnt is how to cope with failure and the best way to learn how make things go right is by when they go right. (is this an unpolitik comment?)

  2. Paul, That is such an interesting viewpoint. Its true, sometimes "the best way to learn how to make things go right is by when they go right". I wonder if it's as sweet when you get it right first time? Nonetheless, coping with failure and how we reach that state of "just learning how to cope with failure" is the meaty bit. Coping with failure is almost like accepting defeat and that you can't change things so that they DO go right (if that makes any sense). So taking the experience of how and why you failed should land you up in a place where you have eliminated the methods or factors that make success impossible - therefore advancing you closer to the method that does work - instead of only teaching you how to cope with failure. Coping with failure is great but it shouldn't be the end result of the lesson or failed attempt, it shouldn't be the end of the road.
